Mang'u High School used to look forward to the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results because it was almost sure to be among the top performers nationally.
Though the national school based in Juja sub-county continues to post relatively good results annually, its performance and ranking in the past few years have been a shadow of its former self.
The school continues to be wrestled down by several little-known new entrants leading its former glory to wither year after another.
However, as they in the military say, once a soldier always a soldier. Mang'u High School seems to have embraced this idea and made a resounding comeback by producing two students among the top 20 nationally.
Brian Ndung'u from Mang'u High was ranked number seven nationally with an A of 87.259 points, only 0.385 points behind the top candidate. Anthony Maina from the same school was ranked position 12 nationally with an A of 87.061 points.
The school had 16 straight As, 98A-, 88B+.
Last year, the school only managed 3As. This year out of the 330 students who sat for the national exam, 316 have attained the minimum university entry of C+.
"This year's performance is the best compared to the past three years. We attribute this performance to hard work among students, teachers and parents," Alfred Githuka, the school principal said as quoted by Thika Town Today after the results were announced on Friday.
