Makueni county boss who is said to have fallen out with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has several times been voted as among top performing governors in the country.
He has been praised for his style of leadership that is centred on people development.
Kibwana recently said that he is not in rush to quit politics in 2022.
Professor Kibwana further says that he will stick around to ensure that he nurtures the next Makueni governor.
“I will not allow a bad person to take over Makueni’s leadership and I will stick around to ensure the right person is in office,” he told Kibwezi residents three weeks ago.
As Governor Kibwana serves his final term in office here is look at his possible political options as 2022 knocks.
1. Presidential candidate -2022
A section of Kenyans are pushing for Kibwana's candidature in the 2022 presidential election.
Owing to his excellent performance in terms of service delivery and development as governor, some Kenyans feel that he is best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
A section of Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) are pushing a campaign to force Kibwana to contest for presidency in 2022 polls.
Governor Kibwana recently said that he will gladly contest as long as he is guaranteed of support.
2. Presidential running mate -2022
Political analyst Peter Ngure observes that Kibwana is among top politicians who could easily be picked as a presidential running mate in the upcoming 2022 polls.
The analyst argues that the professor has the experience and performance to be picked by a presidential running mate.
“Kibwana is among experienced politicians who are likely to attract presidential candidates in 2022,” the analyst said in an interview on Friday.
There has been speculation that Deputy President William Ruto could pick Kibwana as his running mate in 2022.
On this this, analyst Ngure says that the Ruto-Kibwana line up in 2022 could excite voters.
3. Retire from politics
Kibwana can also decide to retire from active politics and focus on other personal issues.
It is a matter of wait and see on the option Kibwana picks as 2022 nears.
For now the Makueni county boss says his focus is to serve and deliver the promises he made to residents.
