Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo has called for calm in Machakos County following the nullification of Governor Alfred Mutua’s election.
Speaking in Yatta Town on Tuesday, Kilonzo said there is no point for Mutua and former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti’s supporters to engage in ugly spats.
Kilonzo said unity is what matters most adding that leaders and residents should always remain united despite their political differences.
“Machakos people should remain calm and continue with nation-building instead of engaging in ugly spats over politics,” Kilonzo said.
Kilonzo said locals will decide on who they will elect as their governor in case the Supreme Court dismisses an appeal case filed by Mutua.
He told Mutua and Wavinya Ndeti to accept the Supreme Court's outcome and ask their supporters to remain peaceful.
“It is time we stop treating each other like enemies because of politics,” he added.
Governor Mutua has filed an appeal in Supreme Court challenging the Court of Appeal's ruling that nullified his election.
Mutua has exuded confidence that his August 8, 2017 election victory will be reinstated by the court.
On the other hand, Wavinya has been urging her supporters and Machakos people to get ready for a by-election claiming that the Supreme Court will dismiss Mutua’s appeal.
