Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has warned the government against capturing key institutions in the country.
In a tweet Mudavadi said; "A church is as good as its congregation & its leaders. We don’t want to see state capture of institutions like the church, judiciary, parliament or trade unions."
The ANC party leader who is eyeing the presidential seat in 2022 further cautioned that when key institutions forget their mandate and "fail to speak up, legislate or articulate the well-being of the citizenry, the country is taking a dangerous turn."
Mudavadi also pleaded with the church to pray for the nation and stand for integrity.
"The greatness of any nation is in the integrity of the people who serve the country with dedication in their various capacities," he tweeted.
Of late, the church, in particular, has been under scrutiny over claims by a section of politicians that it was being used as a place to sanitize funds acquired by corrupt politicians.
