Master Samuel Okong'o,14, travelled on January 18 to Mombasa despite the fact that his grandmother could not afford his school fees.

"Someone showed me the direction from Nairobi. My grandmother had a cow which she sold and gave me the money so I could travel. Whoever is willing to help me please do,” the student said.

His case thrilled a section of social media users with some offering to pay fee for him. In various WhatsApp groups across Nyamira, users even asked activists to create Pay bill number to help the boy.

But South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro has since taken the case, saying that he will pay the entire fee for the student, whose passion to learn touched many.

"Do not worry. I have taken over the case. I'll ensure the student goes to school. I'll pay the entire school fees besides taking care of him," Osoro said.

It's not the first time needy students are attracting public empathy. In early January, a group of social media users helped a needy student to secure admission at Moi Girls Eldoret.

Mr Osoro, at one time struggled to pay his school fee, and is on record for doing odd jobs including being a street boy before succeeding in life.
