The Bondo MP seat had been synonymous with Dr. Oburu since 1994 when he inherited it from his late father, the iconic opposition leader Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Though the past two elections have been turbulent for the Russia-trained Economist, Nyanza politicians should not start underestimating him just yet, his advanced age notwithstanding.

After getting an escape route after his failed bid to make political comeback in 2017 with a job at East Africa Legislative Assembly, Dr. Oburu may be keen to make amends for his last year’s loss, at least if his recent political activities are anything to go by.

Over the last few days, the former assistant minister has become very visible in Nyanza politics where he has been reprimanding Migori Governor Okoth Obado whom he accuses of trying to destabilize the party following his stand on Ochillo Ayacko’s nomination to fly ODM flag in the county’s senatorial by-election.

As to whether the EALA MP is trying to communicate something ahead of 2022 election remains to be seen. But going by his sentiments, the Oburu of old days is back and those who had already written his political obituary should go back to the drawing board, lest they will be crushed.
