In the wake of the brutal killing of Ivy Wangeci, a sixth-year medicine student at Moi University, a video of DP William Ruto Tutorial has gone viral.
The video shows the deputy president addressing a political rally.
"Usipochunga wewe utapigwa shoka... Simuliona muungwana alipigwa shoka (If you aren't careful you will be axed), " the deputy president says in the purported video of him.
The video whose words have been taken out of context by those keen on advancing a narrative, was taken in Western Kenya. It was shot in the wake of Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula's ouster as Senate minority leader.
The deputy president was making reference to that ouster, using the axe analogy to drive his point home. It was also a dig at Raila Odinga for allegedly orchestrating the Bungoma senator's ouster.
Wetangula was removed from the plum position and replaced by Siaya Senator James Orengo. His ouster led to an outcry from western Kenya leaders who accused Raila of dicatatorial tendencies.
Wetangula had repeatedly accused Odinga over what he called betrayal over the handshake. Social media users have lurched on it following Ivy's horrific slaughter.
Her death has triggered an heated debate on social media platforms. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive of her killing.
The suspect was arrested after being subjected to mob justice by irate members of the public.
