President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged county bosses to ensure that they deliver on their campaign promises before the 2022 polls.

Speaking on Tuesday when he officially opened the sixth devolution conference in Kirinyaga County, Uhuru reminded the governors of the need to work with other leaders to ensure the electorate receive quality services.

Uhuru, who reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption, said there is a need for the governors to fight the vice and ensure proper utilisation of county funds during their regimes. 

He further noted that the war against graft will not be won if the leaders do not wake up from slumber.

“I urge all county governments to turn their focus on delivering on the hopes and dreams of Kenyans through tireless commitment to duty, integrity and servant-leadership. Fiscal prudence & curbing wastage is a must at all levels of government to fully realise our development dream,” he said.

He also said that it is unfortunate that some leaders are looting what belongs to the taxpayers because of their selfish interest, adding that leaders have a responsibility to be custodians of the law.

“As we strive to build our nation and fill the national basket with the fruits of our labour, it is unfortunate that some have their hands in that basket, taking away from the common good the necessary resources needed to build a better Kenya for al...,” said the Head of State in another tweet.
