In a briefing with journalists on Tuesday at his office, Haji said that he briefed Maraga on Mwilu’s arrest in a show of respect.

The DPP said that CJ Maraga agreed to the DCJ arrest and prosecution over corruption-related offenses.

“I briefed CJ Maraga before ordering the arrest of the DCJ out of respect because he (Maraga) is our senior but the decision to arrest was independent,” the man from Garissa County told journalists at his NSSF office in Nairobi.

The DPP said that Mwilu will be arraigned in court to answer to charges of abuse of office, unlawful failure to pay taxes, obtaining an execution of a security belonging to Imperial Bank that is now on receivership.

Mwilu was arrested at her Supreme Court office by criminal investigation detectives on Tuesday afternoon.

The DCJ arrest has elicited reactions with majority Kenyans lauding the DPP’s move in an effort to fight graft.

The DCJ  was on late Tuesday granted Sh5 Million temporary bond by the Milimani Anti-corruption.

She alongside her co-accused person lawyer Stanley Kiima will plead to the corruption charges on Wednesday at the Milimani Anti-corruption court.
