NASA leader Raila Odinga said members of Gusii region should not suffer from hunger because there is fertile land for members of the community to cultivate and grow crops.
Raila made the remarks at Kisii High school during a meeting with Gusii opinion leader drawn from Nyamira and Kisii counties.
"Members of the Gusii community are hard working and they have fertile lands where they can grow various crops to boost food production which can also be supplied to other regions in this country," said Raila.
He appealed to members of the community to stop subdividing lands.
"Gusii region has been turned to be a rural slum because land is being subdivided among the people day in day out. Land subdivision is has killed agricultural production and the soil fertility. We cannot continue dividing land to our sons anymore. It must stop," said the ODM party leader.
Raila reiterated the need to prioritize agriculture since it is the back bone of the country's economy.
According to Raila, modern farming practices should be embraced for the sake of boosting food production in the country.
