She calls herself the 'iron lady' of Coast politics. And if she plays her cards very well, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa can make history again by becoming the first woman Governor in the Coast region.
However, the elephant in the room is, can she?
Aisha Jumwa is a real success story, especially in Kenya's male-dominated political arena. And still, she seems to have a lot in store going forward.
Having honed her political skills as a councilor, Jumwa officially announced her arrival into the national politics when she was elected as the first Kilifi County Women Representative in 2013.
The seat gave her a footing going into the 2017 election where she switched to Malindi constituency and edged incumbent, Willy Mtengo. By so doing, she became the first ever female Malindi MP in its over 50-year history.
And with four years remaining to the next poll, the fiery lawmaker her set her eyes on the gubernatorial seat which has also attracted another fiery MP, Owen Baya of Kilifi North.
On the ground, Jumwa enjoys huge following and her biggest political weapon is her sweet tongue that can easily sway the electorate.
However, her choice of the party may dim her dreams and she may end up going to the battlefield limping. But can she defy all odds and make history the second time?
Only time will tell.
