As 2022 campaigns have already begun, expected Jubilee candidate Deputy President William Ruto's presidential ambitions cannot be said to be on a safer side.
This is because already a lot of his political competitors have shown interest and as usual to African politics, they are trying everything possible to outsmart the DP who is known to be a good political planner.
Here are some of the 'challenges' that might be giving Ruto sleepless nights as we near 2022;
Raila's influence
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who is still active in Kenyan politics has in many occasions declared to ensure DP Ruto won't make it to State House and his influence is so much strong that his 'dream' might truly be fulfilled.
Raila and DP Ruto don't see eye to eye when it comes to political competition since they unceremoniously parted ways after the 2007 general election which saw the Eldoret-based politician struggle for his freedom in the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Even with the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila, Ruto and Raila still don't see eye-to-eye.
Uncertainty from Mt. Kenya's support
When they began their leadership in 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta promised DP Ruto that he will ensure he gets Mt. Kenya's support. However, reports have not been sounding well to Ruto's camp from the vote-rich block after a section of its leaders declared nobody has the DP's 'debt'.
Internal wrangles
The DP who hails from the vote-rich region, Rift Valley has received some resistance from his backyard. Though Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has not declared his 2022 presidential bid, some of his KANU allies have endorsed him as well as Jubilee 'rebels' in the region known to vote as a block.
These 'challenges' however, cannot deny DP Ruto the top job as the only decider is an election.
