Molo MP Kuria Kimani has said he will only support constitutional amendments that will ensure young people are included in governance.
Addressing media in Nakuru on Wednesday, the legislator said there are various elective positions that should be deputized by young people.
The MP wants deputy governors to be people below 35 years.
“We shall support a constitutional amendment that recognizes the place of young persons in this country. If we want to have Prime Minister and two deputies well and good but we must ensure the young people are also represented," Kuria said.
He added: "We are also saying it should now be mandatory for deputy governors to be youths.”
There are calls in the country to have the law changed and alter the governance structure by creating the position of an executive prime minister to head the government.
There is also a proposal that seeks to reduce the number of cabinet secretaries from the current maximum of 22 to 12, and counties from the current 47 to 12.
