Barrack Oduor, the journalist who was with Rongo University student Sharon Otieno before she was murdered, is also being treated by detectives as a suspect in the murder.
Oduor, a 'Nation' journalist, had reportedly accompanied Sharon to meet Governor Okoth Obado's PA Michael Oyamo when they were reportedly abducted.
He said he jumped off a moving vehicle to escape from the abductors.
Some people have however been questioning Oduor's account of things saying they do not add up.
His employer, Nation Media, writing in Saturday Nation, said Oduor was a suspect.
"Mr Michael Oyamo, Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant, journalist Barrack Oduor and the four-member gang that kidnapped the woman, were the initial crucial suspects," the paper wrote on Saturday.
Critics of Oduor's account of things raised the following issues:
1. How an investigative journalist's guts failed to warn him of danger even after the PA reportedly changed venues for several times.
2. How he jumped from a speeding vehicle while sandwiched between the abductors.
3. How he only hurt his knees bearing in mind that the vehicle was in speed.
4. How he failed to know the type of car they were abducted in as this has not been captured in his statement to the police.
5. The is also a contradiction from his statements on who was in communication with the PA between him and Sharon.
6. Why he told his wife that he had a minor accident even after knowing he had been abducted, jumped off the moving vehicle and got injured.
7. He has not also told on whether he informed the police about the danger he had left Sharon in so they would pursue the abductors quickly.
Nakuru-based journalist Jackson Okata is among those suspicious of Oduor's account of things.
