A section of Kalenjin elders from Uasin Gishu has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to publicly declare his support to Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Led by retired Major John Seii, the elders said the 2013 pact between President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto must be respected and followed to the latter.
"On behalf of Kalenjin elders, we are calling on president Kenyatta to publicly declare his support to the DP for being loyal to him. This will also help to strengthen his chances of clinching the presidency," said Seii in Eldoret town, Thursday.
He further said the Kalenjin elders will soon launch a campaign across the country aimed at ensuring that Ruto becomes Kenya's 5th president.
"It's on record that we supported and campaigned for president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 and 2017 and it is time to pay back by supporting Ruto in 2022," insisted Seii.
The Kalenjin elders also said the Kikuyu community owe the Kalenjin community politically since they supported their son and it's now their time to replicate the same.
They, however, warned leaders from Rift Valley against fighting each other but instead strategize on how to make Ruto clinch the top seat.
