Powerful Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho on Wednesday told off Deputy President William Ruto during at scuffle at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport over the running of government business.
Deputy President William Ruto had demanded to know why the PS was instructing regional government representatives to boycott his functions despite his position in government.
But Kibicho reportedly told him 'there was need for order in government. Ruto in turn reminded the PS that he is the DP'.
Chief of Defense Forces General Samson Mwathethe is said to have intervened by cooling down the two after their argument almost degenerated into a fist fight.
They had gone to receive President Uhuru Kenyatta who was jetting in from Kigali after an ICT conference. At State House on Friday, Uhuru reportedly asked for report on what had transpired.
“The President wants to know what exactly transpired,” said the source.
Despite the confirmation by top government officials, DP Ruto has denied knowledge of the scuffle. His aide Emmanuel Talam said the DP was not involved in any confrontation.
“That JKIA story is fake. It is a creation of rumour-peddlers of fake news keen to sustain a hopeless narrative,” said Mr Tallam.
Also, Kibicho on Friday dismissed the reports, arguing that DP is his senior in government. For many months now, County Commissioners have reportedly been avoiding Ruto's functions.
“How can I have an exchange with the Deputy President? That is a cheap allegation that does not hold any sense,” said the PS of the claims first reported by People Daily.
