Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has expressed dissatisfaction over the formation of Jubilee government's Cabinet after the 2017 general election.
Jumwa, who was elected on an ODM party ticket but repeatedly declared support Deputy President William Ruto, said she was disappointed that no one from the Mijikenda community was appointed to the Cabinet by Ruto and his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
She said the Coast region has always voted in large numbers during each election but leaders at the national level always sideline them when forming government.
"Sincerely speaking we the people of Coast have always been faithful to our leaders during elections. But they never reward us. Jubilee government did not appoint any Mijikenda to represent us in the Cabinet yet Mijikenda form 80 per cent of the coastal population," Jumwa said on Sunday.
She was speaking when she joined Kilifi County Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi and other dignitaries from the Coast and other regions in attending the Chenda Chenda Festival at Karisa Maitha grounds, Kilifi.
Jumwa who called for the Mijikenda unity, said the coast region currently does not support anyone ahead of 2022 general electionShe said the region (particularly the Mijikenda) was strategizing on forming a political party and find a leader who will lead them to national politics upon consultations with the Taita and Pokomo.
Her sentiments leaves Ruto's presidential bid-support in the Coast region in an unclear situation since she had promised to fully support him ahead of 2022.
Governor Kingi (a Mijikenda) is seen as a potential Coast political kingpin but his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho (not a Mijikenda) boasts of much political popularity at the national level.
The two are both eyeing for the presidency.
