Veteran Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka now says President Uhuru Kenyatta is likely to be succeeded by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Currently, succession battles have swept the mood of the country, with a recent opinion poll placing Deputy President William Ruto at pole position to take over.
But Onyonka, one of the few MPs in parliament to have served for more than two terms from Gusii, on Monday said Raila has all it takes to be president.
"I am very sure that Raila is the most qualified to take over. There is no doubt that he will succeed the president once he retires," said Onyonka.
Formally rallying for DP William Ruto, Onyonka ruled out the second in command, accusing him of being resistant to various advises given to him.
"I went to DP Ruto's house, I told to stop talking about Raila because he's qualified, educated and should talk about himself. I told him Raila is not the problem.
"Also, I asked him to tame his people against talking about Uhuru, you can seen even what they have posted on Facebook. I told him to slow down because the president had asked him to do so. However, he never listens, that's why I left him without regrets," he said.
Early this year, Onyonka had promised to deliver victory for Dr Ruto in Kisii and Nyamira Counties. His remarks caused jitters within the Abagusii community.
