Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has launched the county water drilling rig which is expected to drill boreholes in water shortage prone areas across the coastal county.
Speaking at the Wundanyi county garage after flagging off the equipment, Samboja said that apart from the boreholes, his administration will construct check dams to improve water supply across the county for both domestic and irrigation purposes.
The Sh45 million machine which is capable of drilling 300 meters deep, is expected in Zungulukani area in Kasighau ward where the first borehole will be drilled.
On his part, County Assembly Water and Irrigation Committee chairperson Chanzu Khamadi said the Assembly will collaborate with the County Executive to ensure all water challenges facing residents are addressed.
“We will properly undertake our oversight role to ensure county residents get value for their money. We thank the county administration for purchasing this machine which will alleviate water problems in the dry areas,” he said on Tuesday.
Areas expected to get boreholes include; Marungu, lower Sagalla, Maktau, Kishushe, Mbololo, Kasaine in Taveta, and Kamtonga.
Samboja was accompanied by his deputy Majala Mlagui, Water and Irrigation CeC Gasper Kabaka, Land and Environment CeC Claris Mnyambo, Trade and Cooperatives CeC Gertrude Shuwe, CeC Youth, Sports and Tourism Bigvai Mwailemi and Roads and Housing CeC Houghton Mombo.
