Even before engaging President John Magufuli formally, a strategic Raila Odinga had deployed a team from Capitol Hill to monitor Don Bosco Gichana's situation at Arusha prison.
On Tuesday, Bosco was sentenced to five years in prison on top of Sh15 million fine after pleading guilty on Monday.
However, he will only be required to pay the fine to secure his freedom having already served in jail for five years already.
Concerned with Bosco's tribulations, Raila deployed a team well coordinated by his aides to not only monitor the situation but also find the best way to handle the case.
"He assigned us to follow the case and brief him every new development. Our team was coordinated by his aides from Capitol Hill," admitted blogger Olivia Moraira alias Kabz Nyar Kisii.
She added: "We collected all information on the case, worked with lawyers as Raila engaged Tanzania government at a higher level."
And after establishing the complexity of the matter, Raila is said to have agreed with lawyers to have Bosco plead guilty for a lesser punishment.
In August, Mr. Odinga met Magufuli in Mwanza and it's in that meeting Bosco's freedom was secured.
"We had to ensure the process remained legal. He met Magufuli and the two agreed to have him plead guilty for lesser charges," a source in Capitol Hill said.
On Tuesday, Raila had reportedly asked for the judgment besides instructing Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka to coordinate fundraiser for Sh15 million fine
Mr. Onyonka revealed that there are plans to have friends to Bosco contribute to secure his freedom.
"We thank all those who have stood with Bosco. We are fundraising to pay the fine," he said.
