The cracks within Jubilee Party intensified on Saturday with a section of Rift Valley MPs blasting President Uhuru Kenyatta for what they termed as 'unfair treatment towards DP William Ruto'.
Five MPs among them Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen, Keiyo South's Daniel Rono, Marakwet West's William Kisang, Woman Representative Jane Chebaibai and county assembly speaker Phillemon Sabulei said the ongoing war against graft is crafted in the manner that it dents Ruto's 2022 chances.
"This is politics and we won't entertain tricks. If Uhuru does not want Ruto, let him not sacrifice Kalenjins. Let him engage Ruto on his own," Bowen said, adding that it could be a plot to stop construction of two dams in the county.
Kisang added: "Let him back (AU envoy) Raila (Odinga) in 2022 or anyone else, but he should know that the people of Kenya will decide."
Mr Odinga on Saturday dismissed claims that the ongoing graft war targets DP Ruto, adding that it's one of the agreements with President Uhuru Kenyatta for them to leave behind a good legacy.
But the MPs from North Rift argued that Building Bridges Initiative is a stage-managed affair whose main aim is to stop DP Ruto from ascending to power, a claim that Odinga has often dismissed.
DCI George Kinoti's decision to investigate alleged corruption in construction of Sh65 billion Kimwarer and Arror dams has caused jitters in Rift Valley after preliminary investigations showed that Sh21 billion had been paid without any work done.
