Nyamira County Senator Erick Okong'o has attacked Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i dismissing newly launched reforms in the police service.
The Senator said Matiang'i acted in haste when he changed the police uniforms but has purportedly failed to tame rising cases of civilian killings by police.
"I am strongly condemning Matiang'i for rushing to change police uniforms claiming he is bringing reforms in the police force yet he has failed to address the issue of police officers killing innocent and unarmed Kenyans," he said in Nyamira town on Friday.
The vocal Senator said the change of uniform can't help Kenyans in any way.
"Change of police uniforms will lead to increased insecurity because police will turn to be gangsters since they will be living in residential houses and not police camps. The changes should not take effect until matters of national importance are addressed," he added.
He suggested that the government through the Interior Ministry could have considered improving the welfare of police officers by paying the officers better.
"The government could have increased salaries for the security officers to motivate them to work and stop harassing innocent people when they become broke and not changing uniforms," he said.
