Activist Boniface Mwangi, who was arrested by detectives from DCI on Monday, has been released after securing police bond, a senior human rights commissioner has said.
Mr Mwangi, who has been leading anti-corruption protests in the country, was arrested on Monday but details about his latest battle with the state remains scanty.
"I have been arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations - DCI from my house. We are headed to Central Police Station. I haven't been told the reason for my arrest," he posted on Facebook.
Chief Inspector George Muchiri led the operation before locking Mr Mwangi at Central Police Station in Nairobi. He's accused of plotting a revolution as part of plans to topple Jubilee administration.
Kenya Nation Human Rights Commissioner Kamanda Mucheke led a team of people who secured Mwangi's release. On his Facebook page, Mucheke posted a video of him and Mwangi walking out of the station.
"Now leaving Central Police Station, Nairobi after securing the release of Boniface Mwangi. Mwangi was arrested this morning by CID officers for allegedly organizing a revolution likely to cause civil unrest and breach of peace," he wrote.
Last week, Mwangi organised protests against the alleged run away corruption. It's not the first time he's finding himself on the receiving end.
According to a police statement making rounds on social media, Mr Mwangi is required to aide with investigations on the alleged revolution whose aim is to topple President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“You are not obliged to state anything but should you elect to state anything, it will be taken down in writing and may be used as evidence,” he cautions Mwangi.
