Renowned activist Boniface Mwangi has sensationally claimed that Deputy President William Ruto could be assassinated by 'Kenya Mafia' before 2022 polls.
Dr Ruto is at pole position to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and has heightened his campaigns across the country in the recent weeks.
In a tweet on Monday, Mr Mwangi however, said that inability by President Uhuru to have Ruto prosecuted for alleged corruption, will precipitate his enemies to consider assassination.
According to him, the team is keen not to have Ruto on ballot in 2022 polls. He claimed that Ruto's chopper could be targeted as well as the food he takes.
"Since Uhuru Kenyatta is a coward and he will not allow Ruto to be prosecuted on corruption charges, the #KenyaMafia will assasinate Ruto. Chopper accident, poisoned meal, or a rogue bodyguard. Saitoti was murdered by #KenyaMafia to reduce the number of presidential candidates," he claimed.
On Monday, at least four Cabinet Secretaries from Mt Kenya region we're summoned by DCI over alleged plot to block Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Sources at DCI along Kiambu Road indicated that some of those summoned had recorded statements by Monday morning. It's not clear who is behind the summonses.
From Mt Kenya, some of those who made it to cabinet include Joe Mucheru (ICT), Sicily Kariuki (Health), James Macharia (Transport) and Peter Munya (Trade).
Others include Margaret Kobia of Public Service and Agriculture minister Mwangi Kiunjuri. Mt Kenya involves Central Kenya and Meru region.
Mt Kenya region has been struggling to find Uhuru's replacement in 2022 with some of the politicians hugely divided over the impending exit of the President.
The move has seen some politicians insist that Uhuru remains their de facto leader while others believe that DP William Ruto should take over.
