This is after locals decried hiked bus fare despite the Energy Regulatory Commission reducing fuel prices last month.

Currently, motorists in Kisii County are refueling their vehicles at Sh106.61 per liter of super petrol while a liter of diesel is retailing at Sh104.82 while in Nyamira county motorists are paying Sh106.30 per liter of petrol while diesel is retailing at 104.51.

Matatu operators have dismissed a section of residents demanding a drop in bus fare saying the drop in fuel prices last month is not a guarantee that the prices will remain the same.

"We hiked bus fare so that we can also make a profit after the regulator body hiked prices last year. No one is going to succeed in compelling us to reduce bus fare," said a matatu driver plying Kisii-Migori David Oseko.

Evans Okindo, a driver plying Kisii-Kilgoris route urged residents to accept the bus fare.

"The government should be blamed not us. We must eat from where we work. Hiking fare doesn't mean we are thieves," said Okindo.

Amos Omae said whoever who is not willing to pay hiked bus fare should buy his or her own car.
