Some medications can affect ARV drugs in one way or another by altering the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

When under certain medications alongside with HIV therapy, there is usually an interaction between the drugs that may lower or increase the effects of one drug.

Before taking some drugs, either antibiotics or painkillers, ask yourself how will they react in my body. Some drugs simply hinder the absorption and metabolization of other drugs.

 If you need to use a certain drug, see your HIV doctor to advise you accordingly whether to have the drug or not. 

These are the drugs to avoid if on the treatment;

1. Cardiac medication

Some drugs can compromise the potency of some ARV drugs. They are said to mutilate the liver and bring about inflammation as well. Renexa and multaq are cardiac drugs that you must avoid due to the outlined reason. 

2. Lipid-lowering drugs

They are known for blocking the liver enzyme from producing high cholesterol. However, there are some drugs that are hazardous when used with ARV medicine. They can impair the muscle tissues or damage them. The drugs that have been contraindicated for use with ARV include Mevacor, Zocor and altropev.

3. Sedatives and other neurological drugs.

 They lower the efficacy of ARV drug hence making the drug ineffective in reducing the mass proliferation of the virus.
