Amid fears within the political circles that President Uhuru Kenyatta may shortchange his deputy William Ruto in the 2022 succession battle, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has poured cold water on perceptions.
Having been rocked by in-fighting over 2022 politics for the past week, the ruling party's unity has been tested with three years to the next general election.
According to Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, a key Ruto ally, the DP is keen to deliver on Jubilee's 'Big Four' agenda as his selling point in the next general election. He added that Dr. Ruto is ready to undergo a free and fair nomination exercise just like any other politician who will declare their interest for the country's top seat.
"And, when the time comes, we shall present the candidature of the DP, through the party's nomination process, to the people of Kenya. Delivery of our manifesto and the Big Four Agenda will be our selling point", the National Assembly Majority leader said as quoted by Sunday Nation.
Former Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe set the party wrangle in motion when he declared that Dr. Ruto is not eligible to vie for President in 2022 and that he should retire with Uhuru together. It was the utterance that literally set the two-year-old party on fire.
Duale is the DP's point man in North Eastern region.
