A former Member of Parliament has opposed the Jubilee government's plan to tax 'poor' citizens.
Protus Kebati, who served as Bonchari MP in the 1990s, said the housing levy deductions the government is introducing is uncalled for.
According to him, the government should halt the ill plan because it is a scandal in waiting.
"It is sad that the government is busy coming up with unnecessary deductions on poor citizens yet the same government has failed to fight graft," he stated in Keroka town on Wednesday morning.
He insisted that if the levy deductions to help the Jubilee government build affordable houses goes on, cartels will take advantage to steal the money.
Kebati said 'there is no way the government will deduct people salaries yet those who have stolen millions of shillings are walking free'.
"I want to urge President Uhuru Kenyatta to focus on recovering the stolen money instead of rushing to deduct people their salaries. The money to be deducted from poor citizens will end up into some individuals' pockets," said the ex-lawmaker.
He appealed to Kenyans not to accept the government's plan. On Wednesday, a Labour Court sitting in Nairobi, suspended the plans until a case filed by FKE is heard and determined.
