The outspoken Women Rep called out Khalwale for saying that Islamic fundamentalism was responsible for the attack that has shocked the conscience of Kenyans and the world.

While revealing that she had lost two relatives in the attack, Gedi rebuffed the contention that religion had anything to do with the act of terrorism and accused the outspoken Kakamega politician of spreading hate.

"We thank God your daughter is safe. However, @KBonimtetezi, it's important to note that 2 of my relatives were killed in the DusitD2 attack. Islam, or any other religion, can't be blamed for the cowardly attack. Stop spreading hate & preach unity among Kenyans. #RiverSideAttack," her tweet read.

Khalwale has not yet responded to Gedi's tweet.

"3:27am AND my Zinzi is evacuated! I thank Mr Kanja (GSU Commandant) the rescue operations commander, MIke Lekaleile (OCS Muthangari) n the rest of the security forces for saving the hostages. Islamic fundamentalism has no place in the modern world n must be defeated, " the former senator's tweet read, triggering the ire of Gedi.
