Garissa University has rubbished a report by the Commission of University Education (CUE) that it is offering unapproved and 'useless' courses.
The university says the report is misleading, insisting that all its courses are approved and authentic.
Speaking to journalists at the University on Saturday, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Hussein Golicha said they have been working closely with CUE on the courses they offer.
"All our courses are certified and approved by CUE contrary to what has been published in a section of the media," he said.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor asked students, parents, and stakeholders not to worry about the false claims in the media.
Mr Golicha, however, said the university has re-submitted eight courses for certification by the Commission on University Education.
He indicated that the courses were inherited from Moi University to which Garissa was a constituent college before it was elevated.
"Contrary to media reports, the courses we have re-submitted for certification by CUE are eight and not 10," he added.
The courses re-submitted to CUE include Bachelor of Education Arts (Geography), Political Science, Community Development, Actuarial Science, Statistics and Public Administration.
The DVC pleaded with the students to remain calm as the matter is being addressed.
Last week, CUE claimed that some universities are offering 'useless' courses.
The commission claimed that students are wasting time and resources studying unapproved courses.
The CUE report caused panic among university students across the country.
The Commission, however, says there is no need for panic as it is addressing the issue with affected universities.
