Kanjama says that it is improper for Garissa politicians and elders to make statements on a matter that is under active investigation.

The city lawyer observes that the matter under probe is sensitive and should be left to the detectives.

Speaking to journalists at Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, Kanjama said that politics is likely to compromise the investigations.

"Politicians should stop commenting on the investigation into Mukhtar's attempted murder and allow detectives to do their professional work," he said.

Kanjama said that Mukhtar family is waiting for justice to be rendered.

He said that they have confidence that the truth will come out.

"What the family wants to see is people who planned the attempted murder punished," he said.

Mukhtar was shot several times in the head in an attempted murder on August 18 in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

The former CEC was to be executed along with his lawyer Kanjama.

A key suspect, David Mwai, who died in police cells confessed that he was hired to kill Mukhtar and Kanjama.

Mukhtar is fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Two key suspects Mohamud Hussein Aden and Juliet Njoki have been arraigned and charged in court over the attempted murder.
