Nairobi businesswoman Agnes Kagure Kariuki has condemned the brutal murder of Moi University student Ivy Wangechi.
The sixth-year medicine student was hacked to death on Tuesday allegedly by her boyfriend Naftali Njahi Kinuthia.
The suspect is reported to have committed the heinous act just outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret in broad daylight.
Kariuki said she was saddened to learn of the demise of the young woman who was a few months away from completing her studies, and wondered why it has become so easy to take someone's life.
"Her brutal cold-blood killing is a shock on the extent to which our society has sunk in regard for life and exposure on our weakness to solve issues amicably," she said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
The millionaire investor in the insurance industry called on university girls to avoid being in compromising situations and relationships and encouraged them to always call out for help when they sense danger.
"I would urge all our ladies in institutions of higher learning to always keep safe and to avoid any situation that would remotely expose them to danger and when facing issues, please speak out. Your family, friends and the country badly need you," she urged.
Kariuki had in the past been mentioned by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as a potential candidate to fill the vacant deputy governor position.
