Shock and anguish engulfed Gesima villagers on Tuesday morning after a body of a Form Three student was discovered in a school's pit latrine.
Master Cliff Mayieka reportedly went missing two weeks ago but the school's administration did not bother informing the parents despite being in their custody.
Sleuths from Nyamira DCI office are piecing together information that can lead to possible clue on the boy's death. His body was discovered tied up in a pit latrine within the school compound.
County Director of Education Nicodemus Anyang said Cliff Mayieka’s body was retrieved at 8 pm on Monday.
“We have no clue of what may have caused his death, but police are investigating,” said Dr Anyang.
Dr Anyang said they had deployed a team of counsellors to offer psychological support to students who were in shock.
“We will not close down the school as the students are taking their mid-term exams. They will break next week,” he said.
The school's management may be compelled to explain circumstances under which the student went missing without it informing the authorities or parents.
At the time of recovery, the body was badly decomposing. It's also not clear how he went unnoticed within school compound without security team locating him.
