Residents of Elwak have expressed concern about the rate at which their donkeys are disappearing mysteriously.
The locals are now reading malice that some people could be operating illegal donkey butcheries in the region.
Ibrahim Khalilullah claims that he has lost over ten donkeys within a span of one year, never to trace a single of them even after reporting to local authorities.
However, he feels a cartel is behind the loss where he says the syndicate goes as far as Naivasha where donkey meat is on high demand.
"From the beginning of this year alone, I have lost ten big Mocho's to this bandits. They have completely destabilised my nomadic life to the extent that whenever I wanted to shift I should ask for neighbors donkey to pull the kareta with my one remaining Mocho. My own investigations have hinted that some of our Marqaan boys have been contracted by the agents of Naivasha Donkey butchery owners so that they assemble the donkeys at unknown location where the lorry will eventually ferry them to the designated location in Naivasha," he revealed.
Another resident, Shakkur Maalim, blames the whole issue on corrupt administrators in within the locality who he says are part of the cartels.
"We are aware all the local administrations have been corrupted by the agents and any complaints brought forward will not see the light of the day," Shakkur stated.
