It’s amazing the things that individuals’ especially young people are willing to do just to keep their relationships.

University students in Eldoret opened up about the extreme lengths they go through just to make sure their ‘lover’ doesn’t leave.

One is by taking loans to buy their partner's luxurious gifts. This is mostly seen in male students. Applications like Tala and O’kash have largely benefited from them. Brian Otieno, a second-year student at Moi University said he spends about Sh3,000 a week just to shower his girlfriend with gifts.

“I mostly get this money from my HELB or find a way to extort extra cash from my parents,” said Otieno.

Secondly is doing ‘wifely duties’ like washing clothes, cooking, ironing and general cleaning. As the name suggests, this trick is mostly carried out by ladies.

Lilian Mwende from the University of Eldoret believes that doing household chores for her ‘man’ will make him largely dependent on her.

The commonest tactic used is offering maximum sexual satisfaction. This entails fulfilling all your partners’ bedroom fantasies. If he/she gets what they want from you, why should they cheat?

“If his balls are empty, then he won’t have the strength to cheat or leave,” commented Esther Kimani from the university's School of Law.

Lastly is twerking. Ladies who date men who are party freaks have to live up to the clubbing lifestyle. Some of them even take online twerking classes just to keep their boyfriends’ entertained.

“This is just a way of showing him I can do everything that he wants,” said Faith Wangare a third-year student.
