October 26th, the day famously associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta's birthday, may define the political realignments in the larger Gusii region.

Organisers for Don Bosco Gichana's homecoming have already started campaigns mobilising Kisii and Nyamira residents to attend a mega rally at Kisii stadium.

Mr. Gichana has been in Tanzania prison for five years and his freedom could precipitate a paradigm shift in geopolitics given his influence among the majority youths he controls.

"We have invited ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto for the homecoming. They played a role in his release," said Frank Mirina, one of the organisers.

Last week, Bosco promised to marshall over a million voters during the homecoming, a move that he says would enable him to negotiate with other leaders.

And his partnership with Simba Arati, a self proclaimed Gusii spokesperson, is reportedly sending chills among the seasoned politicians who risk losing relevance.

"Time for the youth has come and we shall initiate the process. We have the ability to define the community's future in local and national politics," warned Mr. Gichana.

But the elephant in the roof remains courting either Raila Odinga or Ruto, both who are interested with their partnership.

Already, Arati had displaced local political setup by causing a crisis amongst elders, a move that caught seasoned politicians off balance in March.

"I am ready to serve my community and nobody will prevent an idea whose time has come. Our people are willing for the change and I'll initiate it."

And on October 26th, the two leaders are mobilising locals to attend in large numbers, a move if successful, would distabilize status quo in the region's geopolitics.
