Police officers in Marani arrested a naked woman on Monday who is allegedly believed to be a witch.
Confirming the arrest, Kisii County Police commander Hassan Abdi said angry students from Nyakeyo secondary school where a dead boy believed to have been killed by the witch raided the woman’s home and torched her two houses.
“The woman was linked to the death of her neighbor’s son who was in form four. Angry students from where the school raided the home and torched it,” said Abdi.
The commander said police officers who were on patrol rescued the woman from the jaws of death because the students were baying for her blood.
“Witchcraft tools were recovered from the burnt houses. It is evident that the woman was a witch but she is in custody helping the police officers in investigating the mysterious death of the student,” he noted.
He warned locals against taking the law into their hands saying crime suspects must be surrendered to authorities.
Abdi urged members of the public to stop practicing the outdated practices failure to which anyone found will carry his or her own cross.
