Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has urged Western Kenya politicians to stop associating with Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking during the Maragoli cultural Festival in Vihiga county on Wednesday, the trade unionist told the leaders to not waste their time on Ruto, claiming that he will soon be irrelevant.
He maintained that the nation is headed for a referendum which will throw the latter off balance, saying that negotiations that will lead to constitutional reforms are already on course.
"Negotiations have began and our leaders should not waste time negotiating with number two (Ruto), the changes are inevitable," he said, in a broadcast on Citizen Television.
He once again dared the DP to demonstrate his political muscles and influence by stopping the initiative, telling him to organize himself and oppose it.
"If he does not want the referendum then let him organize his team and oppose it. We will back it and vote in the proposed reforms," held Atwoli.
Leaders present at the function included the ruling Jubilee Party Chair and Uhuru's close ally David Murathe and Amani National Congress (ANC) party chief Musalia Mudavadi.
Ruto has since maintained that he will not be party to the initiative proposed and led by opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Odinga and his allies have proposed among others, the expansion of the executive to accommodate more persons.
They have argued that this will eradicate exclusion among poll losers and their supporters and also want the reintroduction of the parliamentary government system.
Speaking in Kisumu County on December 13, President Uhuru Kenyatta seemed to agree with the proposal.
He said that the nation needs to review its constitution to eradicate the winner takes it all situation.
