Kigochi argued that an incident where a man committed suicide in Nyamache is a clear indication that men may be undergoing depression and stress.

"The cases of men taking their own lives in Kisii are worrying. My appeal to men is that they should guidance and counselling anytime they are faced with difficulties in life," he stated.

The commissioner challenged local chiefs to conduct weekly baraza in their respective places of jurisdiction to advise the public accordingly.

He noted that losing men prematurely is increasing the number of orphans and widows in the region.

"Most married men are taking own lives leaving behind widows and children. Members of the clergy need to intervene with prayers to keep off evil spirits leading to men to end own lives," said the commissioner.

The county security boss urged men not to stress themselves when life turns hard.

"Residents don't need to stress themselves so much when things fail to add up in life. Let people live according to their level of income," he added.
