The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a list of regions to expect high rain in the coming weeks, starting this month.
The regions that have since been identified include counties Garissa, Homabay, Migori, Machakos, sections of Rift Valley and Coastal region.
Just a day after the meteorological report was made public, the Garissa National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) Coordinating officer, Mr Abdinoor Dubow has also cautioned residents residing along the River Tana flood zones to start preparing for themselves for possible floods in a few days to come.
Speaking on Friday in Garissa town, Dubow reinforced the announcement issued by the national meteorological departments adding that the North Eastern region would expect more rainfall, calling on residents to exercise caution and move to safer grounds.
“As residents of Garissa County you have heard that more rains are expected. We should now have a meeting with all stakeholders so that we can interrogate ourselves and have those in flood prone zones move to safer grounds. We should stick to the lessons learnt in the past,” Dubow said.
Dubow also called on relevant stakeholders to look at the security and transportation of exams during the expected rainy season to avoid unnecessary delays and even unwarranted interruptions.
