This is after the man identified as Naftali Lusuli allegedly beat up and injured his 29-year-old wife at Kipkaren estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town on Friday.

A local daily has reported that Lusuli beat his wife, Valeri Masibo for serving his food late.

The wife reported being pregnant sustained serious facial injuries and cuts on her ears.

She was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret for treatment and later discharged.

Eldoret South OCPD Wilson Abduba confirmed the incident saying the suspect had been arrested.

“The suspect is in our custody and he will face assault charges once the medical report on the victim is released,” Abduba was quoted by Nation.

Photos of the injured wife went viral on Facebook with Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago condemning the incident.

In a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, Mandago termed the act as inhumane, beastly and barbaric.

“We expect that the judiciary will play its role in protecting such vulnerable women by denying bail/bond to such accused persons,” reads part of the governor’s post.

"The victim has been treated and discharged. We continue to wish Vallery a speedy recovery. We urge all victims of domestic violence to come out and seek help so that we can curb this menace," he added.

The incident comes barely a fortnight after a man in Makueni, David Nzomo, was filmed beating his wife.

Nzomo has since been sentenced to 12 years in jail.
