'Fake it until you make it', is a very common phrase that most Maseno University students use.

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

I have been a student in the university for the past 3 years and I have realised that most Maseno campus students play mind games with each other by trying to convince the other they are rich but in the real sense, they are much poorer than a church mouse.

I interviewed several students and here are some of the ways they noted how they fake their success:

Buying things by loans

Most students tend to suit themselves before others as a way of showing off their richness.

"Before I contested for Mr Maseno, I used to get soft loans from Tala, Branch and Mshwari and buy designer suits from Kisumu and then I would spruce up myself with photoshoots that I would later show off to my friends," said, Churchill Okoth, the Mr Maseno.

They sell their lies

Here, my fellow comrades confirmed that they must be updated with the current trends in order to sell their lies well.

"To avoid been caught up in your lies, you must keep up with the changes in trends for example, you must know when alcohol prices rise up so that you can authoritatively write a three page post about how the increment in price of Jameson and Amarula is screwing up your luxurious life," noted Enock Barare, a medical student.

Spicing up their achievements

They don't hesitate to name all the achievements and places they have visited.

"When bragging to friends, never tell them you have had a trip to Lamu, say its Zanzibar, that sounds romantic and when having lunch with your friends tell them the companies you own such as several movie shops, shops, play station shops, etc. You let them feel your success," noted Timmo stopper, director entertainment.

They block all truth sayers

They distance themselves from all truth sayers.

"I do distance myself from people who like saying the truth about me especially my village mates because they are going to embarrass me. I could be telling my friends how I have never tasted omena and they will be contradicting me as they reveal how my elder brother is a fisherman at home," said Steve Annex, an art student.
