Tuesday's trip by Raila Odinga to Tanzania could turn out to be a break or make your.
Mr. Odinga jetted out to Mwanza where he will link up with President John Magufuli for the burial of the latter's sister, Monica Joseph.
"H.E. Raila Odinga has this morning travelled to Tanzania to attend the funeral of Monica Joseph Magufuli, sister to President John Magufuli. President Magufuli and the Odinga families are close friends.
"His Excellency has travelled to Mwanza accompanied by National Assembly Minority Whip Hon. Junet Mohammed. He is expected back in Nairobi on Wednesday," read a statement by spokesman Dennis Onyango.
But Mr. Odinga is also expected for a closed-door meeting with Magufuli where they will discuss a host of issues.
Among them include releasing of estranged businessman Don Bosco Gichana, who has remained in Arusha prison for five years without substantive charges.
While touring Kisii on Saturday, Raila was tasked by local leaders to mid-wife Gichana's release by local leaders.
"He promised that the matter remains his serious challenge and definitely he's meeting Magufuli to discuss the same," said a former ODM MP, who spoke in confidence.
For the better part of the weekend, Raila was accused by social media users for abandoning Mr. Gichana, his one time campaigner.
Also on the table is improving ties with Kenya, which have substantially deteriorated during President Uhuru Kenyatta's tenure.
In July, both Raila, Magufuli and Kenyatta were set to meet in Migori but the tour was cancelled last-minute without clear reasons.
