Ibrahim on Tuesday asked the petitioner, Mr Jared Ongeri, to present the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) with proof that he engaged in corrupt deals before the case can proceed to the next stage. The judge maintained that the ruling in the Wajir gubernatorial race was undertaken in a free and fair manner.

Ongeri had asked the JSC to probe Ibrahim, Jackton Ojwang, Smokin Wanjala, and Njoki Ndungu over the decision to uphold the election of Governor Mohammed Abdi Mohamud.

The governor, whose academic credentials remain under scrutiny, retained his post though Chief Justice David Maraga and Justice Isaac Lenaola had differed with the decision of the four judges.

The commission had requested the accused judges to respond to the case within two weeks before it can be taken into account for further hearing.

Ibrahim has termed the allegations he is facing as malicious and ill-timed, adding that he will not give up until justice is served.

“Having withdrawn allegations against the respondent touching on improper communication between the judge and a Cabinet secretary, the petition has no factual basis,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Nation.

Ibrahim was handed a reprieve in the case after  Mr Mohamed Mohamud Sheikh, another petitioner, decided to drop the changes he had levelled against them.
