Leaked charts from a county WhatsApp group exposed tension within the county government of Nyamira as an aide to Governor John Nyagarama scolded a top county official over unpaid salaries.
In the chart from 'Nyamira Staff', Chief Officer in charge of Finance Edward Ondigi tells the staff that 'he is holed up at the office paying April salaries', a move that irks former Personal Assistant to the governor, Mr Kefa Sagwe, the current deputy Chief of Staff.
An angry Sagwe responds, "What date is today? stupid' but the Chief Officer appears to be calm by responding 'yes boss'. Some workers chipped in to defend the officers.
In a phone call conversation, Mr Ondigi owned up the charts but blamed the Deputy Chief of Staff, accusing him of insubordination and disrespect.
"Seems you have informers in that group. The thing is, salaries were delayed because of payroll audit. The governor went through the list and we just got an okay today. I don't know why he's mad at me," he said.
When reached, Mr Sagwe accused Mr Ondigi of derailing the governor's agenda, arguing that he's fond of dragging development by slow payment to various work done.
"It's not even about salaries. Just like now, he's yet to release money for bursaries despite being approved long ago. That's the topical issues we should discuss," he said on phone.
Disharmony among county officials has literally affected service delivery, with officials always at loggerheads over matters that cannot help the county progress according to former gubernatorial aspirant Walter Nyambati.
