As sorrowful mourners were milling to view the bodies of their dead kins at the New Nyanza Provincial Hospital mortuary a few years back, a thief was strategizing on how to steal from them.
The thief took advantage of the somber mood after an accident had claimed 26 lives, and spied on the mourners congregated at the morgue compound, waiting for the right time.
However, when the much awaited opportunity came, it came with misfortunes as though he managed to take away one of the mourners’ phone, he couldn’t make away with it.
With the crowd fuming and wondering how one can have the audacity to rob in such a situation instead of joining them in mourning, they decided to lynch him and were already going for it.
Fortunately, a senior security officer at the facility saved him, giving him another rather cruel but better punishment; several hours with the dead bodies in the morgue.
‘’Let us lock him in the mortuary with the dead. How can someone do such a thing here when we are mourning? He is a mad man,’’ the security officer was quoted by the Standard.
Before the crowd could argue, he shoved the thief into the preservation room and locked the door.
The thief spent the next few hours relaxing with the corpses inside the morgue.
