Praful Kumar, was arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives after he reportedly tried to bribe Sonko, with an intention to convince him to approve the construction of Grand Monar Hotel in Gigiri, Nairobi.

This is after the County Government of Nairobi stopped the construction of the hotel on August 16, 2018.

Confirming the incident, George Ojowi, the EACC South Coast region boss said Kumar was arrested in Kanamai, Kilifi County where he had taken a total of Sh1 million to bribe the governor who was allegedly present at the hotel.

"He had brought bundle of cash with him and we have counted the money and confirmed it is Sh1 million," confirmed Ojowi.

"We are now interrogating him and we will book him at the nearest police station as we continue with the due process," he added on Monday.

"The man has been trying to bribe me since January 21, 2018. We should support President Uhuru Kenyatta in this fight. Fighting corruption is like fighting terrorism. This war is real," Governor Sonko said through his communications director, Elkana Jacob.
