The introduction of Moi Day after several years may have not not come by just a mere court ruling which reinstated it last year.

Lawyer Gregory Nyauchi's petition got a lifeline from Justice George Odunga but it only depended on the goodwill of government to implement the order.

And just days after meeting former President Daniel Moi at Kabarak, Matiang'i excited Kenyans by officially gazetting Moi Day as a public holiday.

At Kabarak, the two were pictured exchanging warmly as other state officers looked on with excitement all over their faces.

The body language of the outspoken minister also communicated his closeness with the former head of state who retired in 2002.

"I am pretty aware that Matiang'i holds high regard to the former minister and their meeting may have precipitated the latest government decision," said George Monari, a close confidant of the minister.

Through a special Gazette notice, Matiang'i classified Moi Day as public holiday but did not hint how it will be celebrated.

"It's important to not that on 10th every year we shall celebrate Moi Day. Due to preparations for Mashujaa Day, we will not however issue statement how it will be celebrated."

Mr. Matiang'i is tipped to run for Nyamira gubernatorial seat, a cint that would also involve Timothy Bosire and Ben Momanyi in the bid to succeed Governor John Nyagarama.
