When she first set foot at Moi Girls Eldoret on Monday, Hyreen Matara could not believe the miraculous unfolding of events having lost hope of joining her dream school.
As she waited to be admitted, she remained calm and confused most of the time, only engaging herself in deep self reflection perhaps thanking all well-wishers silently.
"I couldn't imagine that this would be possible. It was miraculous. Strangers hearing my plight and helping. It's something that I'll forever cherish in my life.
"Right now, I want to settle and focus on working hard to get into university. I believe that finally I will have to make it. I am optimistic that I'll join school of medicine," she said in an exclusive interview.
Her plight was first narrated in an online news site, Hivisasa.com which precipitated well-wishers to form a WhatsApp group towards her course. Within few days, a total amount of Sh80, 000 would be collected from county residents.
In an interview with Milele FM, journalist Abuga Makori said the money would be diverted to school fee adding that only little was to be used for shopping.
"This money goes for school fee. We shall pay until Form two first term. I think by then a lasting solution would be found. I never expected such expeditious response," he said.
At Keburunga Primary school in South Mugirango, Hyreen topped her class with 413 marks but missed out in Wings to Fly and KCB Foundation scholarships.
Even still with a few challenges, she's optimistic that her stay at Moi Girls Eldoret will remain uninterrupted for the next four years.
