Garissa Township Aden Duale wants the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) deployed to Somalia under AMISOM to remain longer in the war-torn country.
Duale says that KDF’s presence in Somalia is good for Kenya’s stability especially for counties on the border points.
The Garissa Township MP argues that the country will remain stable and secure if KDF continues operations in Somalia.
The MP who spoke to journalists after a closed-door meeting with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and a section of North Eastern leaders at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Nairobi on Monday said that there has been a sense of stability in North Eastern and the country at large since KDF was deployed to Somalia.
“We want to remain stable and secure and we ask the government to ensure that KDF actively remains in Somalia,” he said.
Duale said that terrorism is a threat to development, adding that the militant group’s agenda is to divide Kenyans on religion.
He said that Kenyans will not be divided on religious grounds.
Duale said that North Eastern leaders will continue to work with the government to ensure safety of residents.
North Eastern region especially Garissa and Mandera counties have in the recent years witnessed a spate of terror attacks.
Last week, suspected Al-Shabaab militants stormed Arabia secondary school in Mandera killing two non-local teachers.
The government says that security has since been heightened across the region.
